Bronx mother finds hourly job with help from new app

A Bronx mother found a job a few days after starting her search with the help of a new app that connects hourly workers with employers.
Ashley Johnson said she didn't have high expectations, but knew she needed to find a job to support her and her family. She decided to use Merlin, a new app aimed at easing the job hunt for people in the borough.
Johnson says she was looking for a job when she stumbled across Merlin. Within three days, she landed a job as a housekeeper.
"It's actually something I'm severely comfortable with because I've been doing it since 8," Johnson says. "My mom was a housekeeper for a company and I was sort of like a tag-along."
The app solely hires hourly workers and doesn't focus on a person's resume, but their experience instead.
According to the New York Department of Labor, the unemployment rate in the Bronx is 6.1 percent.
