New York City officials unveiled new methods to identify the remains of people killed in disaster events.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner unveiled the new DNA-extraction technology Thursday at the Charles S. Hirsch Center for Forensic Sciences.
Officials say OCME’s Missing Persons Unit handles DNA testing for unidentified persons as well as victims of disaster events.
They say the agency continues to re-test existing DNA samples with groundbreaking techniques.
Officials hosted a demonstration where they unveiled their groundbreaking methods of DNA-extraction.
