Rainy weather put a damper on the last day that city public pools and beaches were open Sunday.

Places like Orchard Beach are normally packed with people for the last open day of the summer, but wet weather put a stop to that this year.

The city's public pools and beaches close down the weekend after Labor Day.

A lifeguard told News 12 that people can still hang out on the boardwalk and lay in the sand even though swimming will be prohibited until next season.

Dog owners can also bring their pets on the boardwalk from Oct. 2 through May 19.
