THE BRONX -

Thousands of people celebrated the annual Ferragosto festival Sunday.

The event, hosted by the Belmont BID, celebrates all things Italian, with music, culture, tradition and food.

Officials say that the Ferragosto festival dates back to 10 BC, and was originally organized to honor the Emperor Caesar Augustus.

They say that 20,000 to 28,000 people attend the event in the borough each year.
