A Bronx teacher involved in deadly car crash Friday morning on Pelham Parkway has been arrested.
Police identified the driver as 33-year-old Shakira Pierce and charged her with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
Police say Pierce hit a car, attempted to flee the scene, and then hit a pedestrian who had just left nearby NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. They say the 57-year-old man was in a crosswalk, had the right of way and was dragged some distance.
Sources say the man underwent detox at Jacobi. He died at the same hospital.
The victim's identity was being withheld pending family notification.
Pierce is an English and history teacher at Schuylerville Preparatory High School. The Department of Education says she will be reassigned away from the classroom.
