Coney Island Film Festival kicks off weekend film screenings

The Coney Island Film Festival is being held this weekend inside the Coney Island USA building.
The festival, which is in its 18th year, is featuring about 100 independent films of all genres.
Sci-fi is the newest genre to be added to the festival.
Organizers say while this may not be Brooklyn's biggest film festival, it is the coolest based on the venue alone.
The festival director says the strong turnout during opening night goes a long way in supporting local independent films.
Showings will be held throughout the weekend. Sunday night will be featuring an awards ceremony and bumper car event.
