Police say a man is wanted for attempting to rob a deli Monday in Belmont.

The incident happened inside the Habibi Deli on East 187th Street.

According to police, the suspect walked inside the store and posed as a customer ordering food. They say the man then went behind the service counter, pulled out a gun and demanded money.

Officials say a 38-year-old employee hesitated, and was then struck multiple times by the suspect with the gun. They say after a struggle, the deli worker wrestled the gun away from the would-be robber and the suspect ran away.
