Community Board 11 is hoping the city's Department of Transportation does not make the changes it has proposed to Morris Park Avenue.
The DOT proposed in February the addition of bike lanes and turning lanes to Morris Park Avenue from Adams Street to Newport Avenue.
The Community Board rejected that proposal, and a second one put forth by the DOT that removed the bike lanes plan.
With only one lane of traffic on either side, residents and business owners are asking where they would park or how deliveries would be made.
The proposal was made initially due to the rate of injuries in the area caused by speeding cars. From 2010 to 2014, Vision Zero shows 367 injuries on the stretch.
Al D'Angelo, of CB 11, suggests speed cameras or stoplight changes in the area to slow people down.
"I challenge the DOT to double park cars on both sides of the road and see what happens,” says D’Angelo. “Try it before you do it."
The DOT has not returned News 12’s calls to comment about the Morris Park Avenue proposal.
