Bronx man sentenced for killing 3 after having seizure behind the wheel

THE BRONX -

A Bronx man was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for his role in a crash that killed three people nearly three years ago.

Prosecutors say Howard Unger was a ticking time bomb who decided to get behind the wheel of a vehicle on Halloween in 2015.

Unger lost control of his vehicle after suffering a seizure behind the wheel. Prosecutors say he often drove without taking his medicine.

Natalie Perez fought for Unger to receive the maximum sentence of 15 years each for the deaths of her 10-year-old daughter Nyanna and father Louis Perez. Kristian Leka, 24, was also killed.

Both victims' families agreed that his actions claimed their loved ones and that he has shown little remorse.

They also hope that people who have serious medical conditions will never drive without taking their medication, and that those who do should be given harsher sentences.
