Clifton police investigate possible child luring attempt

Clifton police have issued a warning to the community after a possible attempted child luring incident.
Authorities say that a 13-year-old girl was in her backyard and noticed a white, windowless van circling the neighborhood.
The girl told police that a Hispanic man in his 40s walked up to her and told her that he was there to deliver a package.
“The guy in the passenger’s seat, he let himself into my backyard and he said, ‘We have a delivery for you and you have to come get it,’ and he pointed to his van,” the girl told News 12 New Jersey.
The girl, who wished to remain anonymous, said that she was suspicious of the situation, so she said she ran inside and recorded the van on her phone as it drove away.
“I’m very proud of her and just so grateful…that she's safe,” the girl’s mother said. “She acted quickly, she locked the doors and called us.”
The man who approached the girl was wearing glasses and a gray sweater. He was about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a thin build and dark, curly hair.
The driver of the van is described as a black man in his 50s, wearing a red T-shirt.
The van was white, without windows and had some graffiti on the side. Police say that the license plate begins with the letter “X,” which indicates that the van is a commercial vehicle.
