#N12BK: Free diapers and wipes

The City Council voted to pass legislation in which city homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, family justice centers and city-subsidized day care centers must provide free diapers and baby wipes to parents in need.
The bill was first introduced by Brooklyn Councilman Mark Treyger last fall.
Treygar argued the cost of diapers might prevent young kids from attending early childhood education programs.
According to the National Diaper Network, the cost of infant care makes up for 55 percent of a single parent's income and 15 percent of a two-parent household’s income.
In the first year of a baby's life, the National Diaper Network says over 3,000 diapers will be used and could cost over $500.
