SBU nixes king and queen, crowns 'royals' at homecoming

Stony Brook University did away with homecoming king and queen this year and crowned three "Stony Brook Royals" Saturday night.
The school decided to switch to the gender-neutral titles to be more inclusive to students.
“I was very happy to see this positive change to a more diverse and inclusive environment especially for the student body," said RJ Samodal, one of the Royals.
Stony Brook says it is the first school in the Colonial Athletic Association Conference and the American East Conference to switch to gender-neutral titles for homecoming.
