Police: Claremont shooting leaves father dead, son injured

A shooting Tuesday at the Butler Houses in Claremont left one man dead and his 5-year-old son injured, police say.
The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. inside the apartment building located at 1408 Webster Ave. Police say the victims were shot in a stairwell between the fifth and sixth floors.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Jaquan Millien, suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was later pronounced dead at BronxCare Health System, formerly Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.
The 5-year-old boy was hit in the right forearm and was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. He's expected to be OK. Police say an NYPD lieutenant, who's a former Marine, used his belt as a tourniquet for the boy.
The building's Tenant Association president says there are cameras inside the lobby, but not on each floor. He called for more cameras to be installed throughout the building.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Housing Authority for comment regarding the building's security but did not immediately hear back.
There was no word on a motive for the shooting or possible suspects.
