Community pays respects to slain father

A makeshift memorial is present at Webster Avenue and East 170th Street for a father who was fatally shot on Tuesday.
Officials say 29-year-old Jaquan Millien was shot along with his 5-year-old son across the street, in a stairwell at 1408 Webster Ave. Millien was pronounced dead at a hospital, while his son remains stable at St. Barnabas Hospital. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the forearm.
Dozens of candles are laid out in front of the victim's building, spelling out "Erk," -- the victim's nickname because friends say he wore glasses. Friends and neighbors were stopping by throughout the day to pay respects to a man who they say was a loving father and a good person.
Police say Millien had a criminal past, but there is still no word on a possible motive or suspects in the shooting.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Housing Authority multiple times for comment regarding the building's security cameras but has not heard back.
