Parents are on high alert in Morrisania as police continue to search for a teen accused of raping an 11-year-old girl in a public restroom.

Police say the 11-year old girl met the teenager in Hilton White Park, when he asked her to go inside the public restroom and raped her.

The girl rushed home and told her parents about the sexual assault.

Local parents are horrified by the story and say it can be a challenge to teach their kids about what to do if they find themselves in a similar situation.

Kathiana Cantave said, “I always tell her what to say and what to do, to scream loud and kick if she can kick, scream for help, call the police.”

Police describe the suspect as being between 14-16 years old, 5’4”, and about 120 pounds.

The suspect ran away after the rape.

Police say the girl recognized the teen from the neighborhood, but how well they knew one another is unclear.

The girl was treated at a hospital and has been released.
