The Taxi and Limousine Commission is picking up the tab to curb driver struggles.

According to the New York Post, TLC head Meera Joshi will wave nearly $20 million in fees this week to give struggling medallion owners some financial relief.

The Post says the city usually requires drivers to pay $1,650 in renewal and inspection fees every two years. Those fees will be waived this year.

Rep. Mark Levin of Washington Heights has been pushing legislation to require the TLC to conduct a study of medallion owners' and drivers' debt and propose ways to help.

Seven for-hire drivers have committed suicide over financial struggles since last November.
