Turnpike Authority removes exact change lanes on Garden State Parkway

People who drive along the Garden State Parkway may have noticed that the exact change lanes have been removed from some toll plazas.
Drivers who used exact change may remember tossing the coins into the baskets attached to the tollbooths.
All lanes will now accept E-ZPass or have staff for people who need to pay in cash.
Officials say that it was time to make the change.
“They’re old and the manufacturers don’t make parts anymore. You can only find them on the secondary market,” says New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesman Tom Feeney. “We’ve basically had to scavenge the machines we have to keep them working.
Officials say that only 5 percent of drivers used the coin machines to pay their tolls in 2017.
Exact change lanes will still be available on the entrances and exits of the Parkway.
