Annual Bronx Diwali celebration held in Soundview

The Sotomayor Center in Soundview was taken over by the annual Bronx Diwali celebration Saturday.
The Vishnu Mandir Hindu Temple along with several businesses, organizations and members of the South Asian and Caribbean communities came together for the Festival of Lights.
The event featured prayers, lighting of little clay lamps, Bollywood dancing and more.
The holiday got its name from the rows of clay lamps that are lit outside of home to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists around the world.
