NYPD: Deadly crime more than doubled in 50th Precinct over last year

KINGSBRIDGE -

Deadly crime has more than doubled within the 50th Precinct over the last year, according to the NYPD.

The department says it has seen seven homicides in 2018 so far, compared to three in 2017.

Some people who have lived in Kingsbridge for their entire lives say they are seeing this play out right in front of them.

One neighbor says there is a park in the area that was once filled with children, but now it is almost always empty.

Some people in the community say they did not know about the increase in deadly crime.

Others say a way to change this trend is to have police officers more involved in the community.
