40th Precinct brightens holiday season for foster kids with shopping spree

Holiday cheer filled the Kmart in Union Port Saturday as police officers from the 40th Precinct treated a group of needy children to a holiday shopping spree.
The officers teamed up with Cardinal McCloskey Community Services to take 10 children in foster care shopping.
"We want our children in foster care to have an experience where they feel protected and safe with our community partners at Kmart,” said Audrey Trivino, the organization’s senior vice president of children and family services. "Cardinal McCloskey is adopting [the cause] this year and it will be annual from here on."
Each child was given a spending limit of $100.
"A lot of these kids in care they've been through so much and they have lost trust and they need to rebuild that trust,” said Nurse Care Manager Jomel Johnson.
