Bodega owners meet with NYPD to discuss safety

In an effort to prevent future tragedies like the death of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman Feliz, bodega owners came together to talk safety.
The goal of the first NYPD Safety Summit was to have people walk out knowing they will get the tools and training needed to protect patrons.
"We want to make sure that what happened to Junior doesn't happen again," says Fernando Mateo. "We want to be proactive, not reactive. We don't want to point fingers as to who is responsible, rather we want to have the tools to make sure that if we can save a life, we save it."
The bodega owners say they had a positive discussion with police at the summit and called it a productive dialogue.
