Advocates, elected officials rally for congestion pricing in Manhattan

Street safety advocates and elected officials rallied in Fort Green Saturday to ask for congestion pricing.
Victims of car crashes were also on hand to ask state legislators and Assembly members to pass a congestion pricing plan this year.
They say beyond raising revenue for the MTA, charging drivers to enter Manhattan's central business district below 60th Street will keep more drivers off the streets and help keep pedestrians and cyclists safer.
"It is scary out here," says Blythe Austin. "There are way too many cars and trucks cutting through on our local roads in order to get to the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges and cross into Manhattan without paying a toll."
While everyone agrees it's important to keep New Yorkers safe, some Brooklyn residents say congestion pricing isn't the best way to do that. They say it's not fair for drivers to pay more to travel around a city they grew up in.
