Long Island shoppers scramble for last-minute gifts

Long Island shoppers packed malls and stores on Christmas Eve as they scrambled to get last-minute gifts.
At the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station, shoppers braved crowded parking lots and long lines to get their final gifts.
Mall officials say the last-minute rush brings in shoppers driven to buy quickly under pressure, and that works out well for the mall's 80-plus stores.
The nearby Target was open until 10 p.m. Christmas Eve and also saw plenty of people rushing to finish their shopping.
Some shoppers admitted to their procrastination and said they'll likely do it again next year.
The Walt Whitman Mall will open at 9 a.m. the day after Christmas. Plenty of sales are expected. Target will also be closed Christmas Day and will reopen Wednesday.
