A Bronx church will be holding a celebration this weekend for Kwanzaa, which began on Wednesday.

Debroah Oguamah, president of Creating Unity in the Community, says everyone can learn from Kwanzaa. She felt it was important for Parkchester to recognize the festival with an event at St. Helena's Catholic Church Saturday.

This year, organizers will focus on Tupac Shakur and turning the youth away from violence.

Organizers expect the building to be packed after past events could not fit the growing amount of people who take part.

Kwanzaa started in 1966 to celebrate African-American heritage and culture.  

During the holiday, seven candles are lit over the course of the week, highlighting the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self-determination, responsibility, purpose, cooperative economics, creativity and faith. 

The holiday ends with a feast and gift giving.
