A Williamsbridge resident has run out of patience after living without heat and hot water for nearly three months.
Naquia Marrow lives with her two young sons. Her recent living conditions forced her to drive a county away to make sure her sons are taken care of.
"I should never have to get up in the morning, go to my mother's house in Yonkers, come back from work at night, go to Yonkers and stay at my mother's house and do what I have to do," says Marrow.
Marrow says her kids have been in and out of doctor's offices due to the cold. She's taken dangerous measures to bring any heat possible to her home, including keeping the oven on overnight.
Marrow is now taking legal action in housing court due to the lack of response.
The landlord for the Bronxwood Avenue apartment says the problem is a Con Edison plumbing issues and that his hands are tied. Marrow is refusing to pay her landlord in the meantime.
"All he knows is money," says Marrow. "But he won't be getting any rent until all these repairs are finished."
Con Edison responded to the situation, saying heat and hot water were turned off in that building on Oct. 16 due to unsafe conditions because of a missing meter. They add they are waiting the plumber to submit required documents before performing a test.
Assuming the test is passed, a new meter will be installed and gas would turn on.
