Fire breaks out in Co-op City high-rise with 3 people inside
A fire broke out Thursday morning at a high-rise building in Co-op City with three people inside.
Fire officials say the call came in just before 10 a.m. The fire was on the eighth floor of a building on Debs Place.
Officials say close to 80 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. They say two young women and a little girl were inside.
Cellphone video captured a firefighter carrying the girl out of the building. Fire officials say the girl suffered smoke inhalation. All three were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The man who reported the fire says he lives just a building over and was taking a walk when he saw the flames.
"I saw some black smoke coming out of the terrace window and so I called and people were yelling out the window," says Pablo Vega. "A lady was yelling help, help. It was a little intense because the lady was yelling and you're kind of anxious for the fire people to come right away and they finally showed up, and they rushed in there and they took care of everything, so everything is OK."
There's still no word on what caused the fire, but officials tell News 12 the investigation is ongoing.
