Parkchester residents are gathering this weekend to celebrate Kwanzaa.

Saint Helena's church opened its doors for a night of unity in the community for the ninth year. 

Participants wore traditional outfits and vendors sold clothes and jewelry.

Organizers say the event gives those who celebrate Kwanzaa a place to come together, and welcomes others interested in the culture to learn and participate.

Kwanzaa is a holiday that celebrates African cultures and connects to the seven principles of that heritage.
