Woman allegedly steals donation jar from disabled veteran

A Monroe woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole a donation jar from a disabled veteran.
Army veteran Mark Hanson says that he has a hard time walking after an illness. But he says that he still finds time to collect money for his VFW club in Old Bridge.
He says that he was at the Wawa on Englishtown Road on New Year’s Eve day collecting donations when his jar was stolen. He estimates there was about $500 inside.
“She took the VFW bucket out of the backseat floor of my truck,” Hanson says.
The surveillance camera inside the Wawa captured an image of the alleged thief, identified as 51-year-old Sheriann Depinho. Depinho was charged with theft and burglary.
Witnesses say that Depinho left the area in a vehicle with another person inside. Police are still investigating.
Despite being targeted, Hanson says that he is concerned for Depinho’s family.
“First my heart goes out to her family. Because a family never wants to know that a member of the family is doing wrong. So I feel bad about that,” he says.
Hanson says that he will be back out at the Wawa once again collecting donations.
