Years after tragedy struck their family, two cousins started a business along with an innovative app to make people’s lives easier.
For cousins Jonel Gonzalez and Jacob Torres, becoming business partners only strengthened their bond.
The pair opened J and J Laundromat on Hoe Avenue in Longwood in November.
“We definitely believe the Bronx should have a great laundry service, as good as anywhere else,” says Gonzalez.
Along with the new laundromat with wash and fold service available, they created what seems to be a first for the Bronx.

“It's simple, we go to your house, pick up your clothes and bring it back to you,” says Torres.

Laundry service with delivery is all from their app Bubbly Laundry.
Users can set up a pick up time, a drop off time and even set the frequencies of the orders.
There is a monthly flat rate subscription on Bubbly Laundry, or customers can order by the pound.
Jose Valdez has gotten most of his family to sign up for Bubbly Laundry.
“It's like more of a Brooklyn, Manhattan thing, but it's good for the Bronx, you know, we need it,” says Valdez.
Family is also why Gonzalez and Torres say they created their business.
On April 29, 2012, a horrific crash on the Bronx River Parkway killed seven of their family members, bringing them together in their late teens.
The cousins say with their app they are trying to give Bronx residents more time with their families.
“You're spending weekends, a lot of times doing chores, we just want to give people their time back,” says Gonzalez.
