LONGWOOD -

Police say a suspect in an attempted rape was taken into custody Wednesday night.

Martin Estrada, 37, was charged with attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and attempted assault.

Detectives say the incident took place at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday when Estrada approached a 22-year-old woman near the intersection of Belmont Avenue and East 189th Street.

Officials say Estrada put the women in a chokehold and dragged her for one block. They say a good Samaritan saw what was going on and stepped in, causing Estrada to run away.

Police say they were able to gather information on where Estrada lived. Sources tell News 12 he was taken into custody near his home in Belmont.
