Bronx nonprofit gets needed funding after facing closure

THE BRONX -

A Bronx nonprofit organization has received funding it needs to continue providing services to the community just two weeks before it faced closure.

The Muslim Women's Institute for Research and Development in Highbridge received necessary funding from donors in order for the organization to expand.

Organizers say their location at 1350 Ogden Ave., which housed a food pantry, became too small.

The organization says it offers health screenings which include testing for HIV. They say they plan to expand and offer respires to domestic violence victims.

Volunteers from Hunger Free America helped renovate the new space on Sunday.
