Family: NYCHA didn’t clean mess left from broken steam pipe

A broken steam pipe lead to a dangerous situation for one Kingsbridge family living in the Fort Independence Houses.
The Delgado family says a broken steam pipe flooded their apartment, and that the hallways are covered in a black mud-like substance. The family says the pungent smell is reaching every corner of the apartment.
"The kids were here, there was scolding hot water coming out of the bedroom, it was shooting in the air and black stuff was coming out," says Jessica Delgado.
They say New York City House Authority workers left them to clean up a majority of the mess.
"They told me to clean up then left me a bucket and a mop outside my door and said I had to clean up all the mess," says Delgado.
A NYCHA official tells News 12 that staff addressed the flooding right away, but couldn't complete the cleanup. They say they tried to contact the Delgado family Wednesday morning to no avail, but will try again Thursday. They also say heat and hot water went out Tuesday, but it's back on.

Until the apartment is cleaned up and the problem is resolved, the Delgado family says the children who live there will have to sleep on a mattress in the living room.
