Nonprofit organization distributes food to federal workers

A local nonprofit organization is giving back to the community by providing food to federal workers in need.
ICNA Relief calls itself a Muslim charity serving Americans in need, and this weekend it is coming to the aid of hundreds of workers impacted by the government shutdown.
The Bronx is known for being a health food desert. By handing out wholesome foods like bananas and other fruits and vegetables, the group hopes to help make the borough a healthier place.
One Bronx councilman says he is hoping to make the spot a permanent food pantry.
"I have a great relationship with [ICNA] and I'm looking to make it even stronger as we start exploring a permanent food pantry for them so that they can give away as much as they possibly can,” says City Councilman Mark Gjonaj.
ICNA says it does its work because it’s the humane thing to do.
