Kids at the NYC Montessori Charter School in Mott Haven were paid a visit by some Super Bowl champs, just ahead of the big game.
Physical education teacher Brett Goldstein organized the event that featured former New York Giants Kevin Dockery and Chris Canty. The players provided messages of encouragement and the importance of education.
"I am from the Bronx, I am from Co-op City, so it is awesome to be able to have the opportunity to come back and talk with the kids and just share a few words of wisdom on the eve of the big game," says Canty, who won Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants.
Kids enjoyed the positive assembly, and said they came away with some inspiration.
"For me personally, it just puts everything into perspective ... the fact that you are able to come back here and give these kids a message to brighten up your day ... hopefully brighten up their future ... you can give them some things that can maybe stick with them," says Dockery.
Canty says a community event like this is important because the Bronx gave him the opportunity to chase his dreams, and he wants to pay it forward.
