A group of musicians and influential names were honored at the Element of Hip Hop Awards Tuesday for their success in the music industry and for being positive influences in their community.
Fat Joe, Angie Martinez, Andre Trenier, Willie Colon and Shawn Pecas Costner, the vice president of Def Jam Records were honored.
The event was hosted by Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the nonprofit organization Windows of Hip Hop.
Organizers say the event recognizes them as hip hop leaders who have nurtured the Bronx-born music genre and advanced the culture by giving back to the community.
They say each one of the honorees have done so in their own way, whether it be by giving school supplies to students, food drives, community events and even helping in relief efforts following Hurricane Maria.
This is the fourth year the award ceremony was held.
