THE BRONX -

Mayor Bill de Blasio made a major announcement regarding funding for the Eastchester Gardens Community Center during the final day of his City Hall in Your Borough tour of the Bronx.

The mayor announced a $3.7 million investment to help make improvements to the community center.

“I always say to people if you want great outcomes from our kids, you've gotta invest in them," said de Blasio.

There will be upgrades to classrooms, the heating and the air conditioning systems, as well as new plumbing. Construction will begin next year on a new gymnasium.

Tenants says they can't remember the last time the center went through a major overhaul and call the investment long overdue.
