MORRISANIA -

Dozens of tenants were displaced after a three-alarm fire ripped through multiple apartments of a six-story Morrisania building early Sunday morning.

Officials tell News 12 the flames broke out on the fifth floor of the building shortly after 3 a.m. on the corner of East 163rd Street and Park Avenue.

The fire sparked an evacuation of the entire building and residents have not been allowed back in since.

FDNY officials tell News 12 they were able to get the fire under control by 5 a.m.

Window frames and glass were seen on the sidewalk below the building as parked cars nearby were smothered in debris.

"My car is like broken down," said Norelys Genoves of Morrisania. "I'm crying and I realize there was a fire upstairs and I'm like 'oh my god,' like everything is thrown on the floor, broken to pieces, people's car are messed up."

News 12 is told three firefighters suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized for treatment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
