An assistant night manager of a car wash was stabbed in Soundview, and police are now on the hunt for a suspect in what they're calling an "unprovoked attack."
It happened outside the 1440 Westchester Ave. Car Wash and Lube at 4:15 a.m. Sunday.
Police say that they have their suspect on surveillance video holding the weapon they say he used in this attack.
According to police, a man in his 20s or 30s ran up to the victim and stabbed the 54-year-old employee once in the abdomen.
The victim, whose face and name News 12 is protecting for safety reasons, is now hospitalized on a breathing tube.  The father and husband, whose family says has a pre-existing heart condition, had to undergo surgery.
He is recovering from internal bleeding from the stab wound that family says punctured his organs.
"That would shock anyone, right?" said customer Jeanette Hernandez.  "You're working, you don't expect someone to just come up and stab you."
The victim's family says the Salvadorian immigrant has no idea why the suspect attacked him.  The attacker did not rob him, according to the victim's family, instead shouting obscenities before rushing him with a knife.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black coat with a gray fur lined hood, black pants and black sneakers.  He fled on foot on Westchester Avenue.
