Tenants in Claremont are fed up with their landlord and took action after claiming they've gone without gas for months.
Residents held a protest outside an apartment building Monday, voicing their frustrations.
"Right now there's over 400 violations and the reason why we have those violations is because of years of negligence, it didn't happen overnight," says resident Nadia Metayer.
The landlord of this building, Abdul Khan, made former public advocate Letitia James' landlord watch list, coming it at No. 8.
Tenants who have lived in the building for years say they've been without gas for months, face uncontrollable leaks, cracks in the ceiling and mold.
Those who live in the building say Khan's lack of action led to them form a tenant's association. They say that is when they started seeing progress.
"Even though this is a sad situation, not having gas, it's kind of pulled tenants together," says Metayer.
With support from local organizations, they may get the help they need. Bianca Cappellini, of Bronx Legal Services, says they were able to get the landlord to consent to correct 517 violations.
News 12 reached out to Khan but did not hear back.
