Kathryn Garcia named interim chair of NYCHA

The mayor has named the former commissioner of the Department of Sanitation, Kathryn Garcia, as the interim chair of New York City Housing Authority.
The mayor’s press office described Garcia as a seasoned veteran involved in complex roles in city government.
Her new role, according to the mayor’s office, will aim to reverse decades of disinvestment in public housing.
Garcia, in a statement coming from the mayor’s office, says they have a plan to renovate tens of thousands of apartments within NYCHA and will work with the federal government to improve key services to residents.
Garcia will serve as interim chair as the city works to select a permanent chief of the agency.
As for Garcia's former post at the Department of Sanitation, the mayor’s office says first deputy commissioner of DSNY, Steven Costas, will step into the role of acting commissioner for that agency.
