City Island shooting shakes some residents

CITY ISLAND -

Some City Island residents say gunshots fired Monday night at a gas station have shaken the community.

The incident took place at the Sunoco gas station on City Island Avenue, where police say two unidentified men brandished a gun at another man while he was pumping gas.

They say the two men fled the scene after shots were fired. It’s unclear whether anyone was hit.

Bill Stanton, the president of the City Island Civic Association, says he plans on meeting with officers from the 45th Precinct to discuss safety preventative measures.

“While crime, whether it’s petty larceny or assaults, may peak and valley over the years, over the 40 years I've been here, the community comes together and gets stronger,” says Stanton.
