Suspicious package at Marine base triggers massive police response

Emergency vehicles swarmed the U.S. Marine Corps base in Garden City after a suspicious package was found on the property.
Garden City police received the call just before 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Nassau police bomb squad also responded.
News 12 is told that Stewart Avenue, a major thoroughfare, was temporarily closed to traffic as a result of the massive response. Within 30 minutes, the bomb squad determined the package was not dangerous. Police gave the all-clear at 2:20 p.m.
Neighbors say they were left in the dark about what was going on steps from their homes.
Garden City police are in possession of the package. Officials say an investigation into the package is ongoing and add that no crimes occurred.
