More than a dozen displaced by 3-alarm fire on Boston Road

MORRISANIA -

The FDNY says a fire that destroyed two homes in Morrisania Tuesday morning displaced more than a dozen people.

Officials say the flames broke out around 5:36 a.m. on Boston Road and traveled from one home to another multifamily house next door.

The FDNY says two firefighters had minor injuries, and that the freezing cold conditions made it difficult to fight the flames.

Residents outside the home say they're trying to process that their homes are demolished, but they’re glad no lives were lost.

The FDNY says 15 people self-evacuated the building. Firefighters say it took some time for units to get in the houses to open up the walls and extinguish pockets of flames because there was a lot of fire when engines arrived.

Sheriff Atetimrin, a displaced tenant, says he's grateful he made it out alive and that he now only has the clothes on his back.

A good Samaritan who lives in one of the buildings helped everyone evacuate.

Atetimrin says he'll be staying in an area hotel for at least a couple of days. The Red Cross tells News 12 it's currently aiding 13 adults and two children by providing temporary housing, emergency financial assistance and relief items.
