Driver in hit-and-run that killed DJ Jinx Paul takes plea deal
The man accused in the 2016 hit-and-run death that left DJ Jinx Paul has had his plea deal accepted by a Brooklyn judge Tuesday.
John Paul Guerrero, also known as the beloved DJ Jinx Paul of Mega 97.9, was killed in December 2016 when Kevin Ozoria fatally struck him with his car.
It happened more than two years ago near the intersection of Jamaica and Sheffield avenues in East New York. Ozoria was indicted once before, but the charges were dropped over lack of evidence.
Ozoria pleaded guilty to the top charge of leaving the scene. As part of the guilty plea, he will only serve five years’ probation in addition to 100 hours of community service.
Guerrero’s family says while they’re glad someone finally took the blame for his death, they are devastated he is gone.

His father broke down into tears while speaking to News 12 outside the courtroom, saying the man who killed his son is a criminal and asked how he could leave his son dying in the street.

Guerrero’s family is expected to give an impact statement and address the courtroom and the man who killed their son during sentencing on May 1.
In addition to the family in attendance Tuesday, the DJ leaves behind a young son.
