BAAD!ASS Women Festival showcases the talents of Bronx women
The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance is celebrating Women's History Month with tons of shows over the next few weeks, and they are all by female performers.
This Saturday, BAAD will feature a tradition flamenco dance called “tablao” performed by Nelida Tirado.
Tirado is one of many female artists who will be performing throughout the month for the academy's BAAD!ASS Women Festival 2019, which is celebrating its 19 year.

“It's very empowering and I feel honored and privileged to bring my piece as part of this festival,” says Tirado.

Qurell Amani will be performing her one-woman show

“It's called panther-woman and it's a one-woman show which centers around the female experience in the original Black Panther Party for Self Defense,” says Amani.

The academy is open to all talent, but showcasing the work of Bronx women is something they say they aim for.

“So I hope that folks come and are, you know, stunned by the breadth of art that they see on the stage here at Westchester Square in the Bronx,” says BAAD Deputy Director Joseph Hall
BAAD is currently taking applications for next year’s show.
