Driver charged in death of 80-year-old pedestrian

THE BRONX -
The man allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle that hit and killed an 80-year-old woman has been charged.
 
The incident occurred on Boston Road and Wilkins Avenue just after 6 p.m.
 
Police say the victim was hit by a small yellow bus making a right turn. She was brought to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
 
Police say Rafael Ortiz, 52, has been charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian, a misdemeanor charge that carries a $250 fine and possibly 30 days in jail.
 
The company that employs the driver responded, saying, "The matter is still under investigation."
