Compassion Connection Club at Throgs Neck school gives back to community

THROGS NECK -

One of the most popular school clubs at Preston High School is one that gives back year-round.

The Compassion Connection Club at Preston High School is on a mission, after-school to give back to their community.

The club is aiming to make as many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as possible for complete strangers.

“No matter if you see the people you're affecting, or you get anything back, you should always give back to your community in whatever way you can,” says club co-president Ayana Adams.

Compassion is built into the foundation of Preston High School, so it's no surprise to them that Compassion Connection has nearly 100 students involved in the club.

One day a week for the six weeks of Lent, Compassion Connection is making sandwiches that they deliver to Lamp Catholic Ministries down the street.

“This goes hand in hand in what we learn in classes, how you should treat people not just while we're in school, but outside too,” says Adams.

Lamp Ministries volunteers hand out the sandwiches the next day.

“It's really empowering to see al the girls come together for this same cause, like we can do anything you know," says Adams.
