Free tax prep comes to the Bronx as April 15 deadline looms

Some free tax services are being offered in the borough as the April 15 deadline approaches.
For five years, Councilman Ritchie Torres’ office and nonprofit Urban Upbound have been providing free filing for families during tax season.
Last year, an estimated 600 returns were filed, generating more than $1 million for the borough.
“We're putting dollars in the pockets of local Bronx residents and those same residents are reinvesting those dollars in the local economy,” says Councilman Torres.
Free tax preparations will take place at the Fordham office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-5 p.m.
Families making less than $62,000 and individuals earning less than $25,000 are eligible for the free filing.
