Women's empowerment event held in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens

In honor of Women's History Month, a woman from Crown Heights says she's doing her part to motivate and inspire the women in her life.
A female empowerment event Saturday in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens was founded by Johana Vallejos, who goes by the nickname Melanin. It brought together her friends, family and others around the city to talk about women's issues. Topics included infertility, domestic violence, weight loss, entrepreneurship and more.
Speakers at the event included people from all walks of life. The youngest was a 7-year-old girl who spoke the supportive crowd of her hopes and dreams for the future.
It marked a judgment-free zone with the ultimate goals of listening, connecting and motivation.
"My goal is for everyone to leave here feeling like their spirits have been lifted, had a good time, smile, laugh, cry, or whatever they want to do, " says Vallejos, who is the founder of Events by Melanin.
Men were also being invited to share their perspective on the topics.
