Norwood teen critical after falling from roof of vacant home
A 13-year-old was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition after falling from the roof of a vacant three-story home in Norwood on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Decatur Avenue at the home considered to be a hangout spot by neighbors.
Authorities are treating the incident as an unfortunate accident. They say a friend who was with the victim told authorities that he heard a loud thud and then saw Alan Hernandez on the ground.
Neighbors say EMS responded quickly and took him from the alleyway, where he was bleeding from the head.
A makeshift memorial now sits outside of 3056 Decatur Ave. as the victim's family takes turns at his bedside.
After the fall, a complaint was filed with the city Department of Buildings about the vacant property being open to the public. It has since been secured.
